The Body Coach
It’s important to break up your study and in these times of social distancing exercising at home is a great way to keep fit and healthy. Check out The Body Coach TV for great workouts suitable for the whole family.
Audible UK are offering children everywhere a chance to stream hundreds of audio books, in six languages, absolutely free. No accounts are needed and all stories are free to stream to your desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. There is a whole section specifically for teens as well as lots of literary classics and poetry to choose from.
Parents and carers can find free primary and secondary activities, tools and advice to support learning at home - including sample homes school planners, primary reading and maths support, access to free eBooks at secondary, and much more.
Computer science skills help students collaborate, create and make nearly every subject seem more relevant. Blockly Games is a series of educational games that teach programming and is designed for children who have not had prior experience with computer programming.
TED-Ed is working with expert educators and TED speakers throughout the world to create and share interactive, video-based lessons on a daily basis, for free.

National Literacy Trust has launched literacyfamilyzone.org.uk to help ease the burden and provide a place for parents to go to find genuinely useful, educational resources for their children during school closures. You will have to create a free online account to access the resources.

BBC History Revealed Competition
If you’re aged between 6 and 13 years old, BBC History Revealed magazine would love you to write a postcard, pretending that you are a historical character living in a historical lockdown.
The 10 winners will have their creations published in a future issue of BBC History Revealed and will receive a t-shirt, water bottle and framed picture of their postcard.
Speakers for Schools - Live Talks
Speakers for Schools are hosting a Virtual Talks programme. Click below for this week's line up including Josie Rourke, Film and Theatre Director; Lady Nicola Mendelsohn, Vice President for EMEA, Facebook; Sereena Abbassi, Worldwide Head of Culture & Inclusion, M&C Saatchi and Ed Couchman, General Manager for Snapchat/SNAP INC.
No logins are required and all attendees can stream the talks without downloading Microsoft Teams. Links should be opened in a browser that is not Internet Explorer. Students can view by clicking WATCH LIVE TALK HERE and then clicking ‘Watch on web instead’ and sign in anonymously. The speakers will appear at the set times e.g. 10am and 2pm.
Tuesday 12th May 2020: Would you like to keep a one-day diary for Mass Observation?
'Mass Observation' asks people to write a diary entry of things they have done during the day (every year, on 12th May). You can write about friends; hobbies; school work and family - although you mustn't include names. You might also write about why today hasn't been a normal day! Siblings or parents/carers might even like to join in too, as anyone can take part!
One day, people will read back over these diary entries. School children might even study them in the future, during history lessons.

Literacy Planet's WORDMANIA competition is back!
Alec Hunter did really well in last year's competition. It would be fantastic to see our students on the leader boards again.
Remember it is not just the highest scores but participation that counts, the more of us that play and the more games we play the higher up the leader board we go.

Resistance Training for Teens app
If you're interested to learn more about resistance training have a look at the Resistance Training for Teens (RT for Teens) app. Designed for secondary school students, RT for Teens aims to help teenagers develop the skills and confidence to engage in foundational resistance training activities.
West Yorkshire Sport
